> "I’ve earmarked it for when my kids are old enough to appreciate it, so we can work thru it together one summer."

Neat!!

> ...novels as well as nonfiction... ...structured like a self-paced academic course...

You got me to click! And I was not to be disappointed. Bonus photos of course syllabi!!

Yay I'm glad you enjoyed it :) If you end up going thru it with your kids, definitely report back!

"“Where yellow dives into the red the ripples are orange,” as Derek Jarman says." Love this image. And had never realised that "brown is a less intense orange", but now I see it!

And pleased to find I have another "free word" connection between spanish (which I know) and arabic (which I'm trying to learn). Thanks for being an etymology-nerd.

Loved the recommendation on the WTF List article. I am about to start a new job and it gave me ideas on how to approach my first two weeks!

Selfishly is also good to know that as I writer I wasn’t the only one having a moment about LLMs and reading Dalton’s words was refreshing.

Good luck with the new job! LLMs were definitely the biggest shock for me to come back to after being out with the baby. It was like the whole world changed. Very disorienting!

As always, you provide a wealth of interesting links & rabbit holes to follow!

My current job is the first one with regular one-on-ones too & I've found them super useful for the same reasons. It helps that my supervisor is really open to mutual feedback & constructive criticism so I sometimes suggest little things I think could be improved about his leadership or help the team as a whole.

The Dungeon Crawler's Wife sounds like it could be the next big isekai anime - the spiritual successor of Delicious in Dungeon maybe.

I'm glad you enjoyed the links, and that one-on-ones are going well for you too!

As for the Dungeon Crawler's Wife, I'm unlikely to have enough time to devote to it to "make it big" -- succeeding on Royal Road is optimized for frequency of updates, not loving devotion to getting the sanitation system right -- but I hope to keep plugging away at it for the next decade or so, and maybe when I retire I'll have something worth publishing to a wider audience. 😂

For now it's just fun to write and think about.

No worries, it was a bit of a joke! If it's fun to write & fiddle with, that's all that matters. :) Although I would totally read everything you write about dungeon crawling and/or sanitation systems...

I think there might be a link missing in the bullet point about the article about the history of refrigeration.
