I always feel a little funny with posts like this that are at least a little bit "stuff you could learn from an encyclopedia" (it feels derivative?) so I'm glad you got something out of it! I really do love these weird little rodent things.
A common early-game enemy in the Fallout video game series. Even with 90s-era sprite graphics they were depicted as disgusting enough to trigger a gross-out reflex in my teenage self. No thanks.

Heh back when I used to play Wurm they had an "arachnophobia" setting you could click to make all the giant spiders tiny.
